Mission of the ECCPS
Heart and lung diseases are leading causes of death worldwide and also represent the highest socio-economic burden. The Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary System (ECCPS) at the universities of Frankfurt and Giessen an the Max-Planck Institute for Heart and LUng Research in Bad Nauheim constitutes a unique translational research centre, dedicated to combining cutting edge basic sciences with preclinical and clinical studies in the field of vascular and parenchymal heart and lung diseases. Given the background of multiple interactions and largely unresolved treatment challenges in these medical fields, the mission statement of the ECCPS ("Cutting edge research for novel therapies of heart and lung diseases") framed at the founding in 2006 has not lost any of its relevance.
